Job Summary

As part of the interdisciplinary team, the Physiotherapy Extern is an unregulated healthcare provider who will be providing patient-centred care under the direct and/or indirect supervision of an identified Regulated Health Professional (RHP), while taking into account the rules and standards that govern the practice of physiotherapists in Ontario.  This position is a contract position until approximtately March 31, 2024 with possiblility of extension. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Physiotherapy student in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC).
  • Evidence of good academic standing.
  • Evidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements is an asset.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Skills and Abilities

  • Works with the supervising Physiotherapist to ensure they have the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties,
  • Provides assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting, and ambulating as per the hospital policy
  • Complete and maintain related records and documentation
  • Observes patient assessments and participates as requested
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Demonstrates excellent assessment, communication, organization, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Hours of Work:  In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7.  There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (days, nights, 12 hours).

Other:  All job offers will require compliance with our COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for proof of full vaccination (two doses) unless provided with a medical exemption or an accomodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
