Job Summary

The Unit Assistant ensures clear concise communication and facilitates the flow of information with other facilities, the health care team, visitors, family members and patients.  As part of a multidisciplinary team the Unit Assistant provides supportive service to patients, nursing staff and physicians and works in cooperation with other departments with the hospital as well as other nursing units..

Qualifications and Experience

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma or recognized equivalent
  • Office Administration Certificate preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in within a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Experience with order entry/Meditech an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated basic computer literacy with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel).
  • Accurate keyboarding skills (minimum 30 wpm).
  • Proven ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written English instructions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in written and val communications skills including excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and manage stressful work environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism and confidentiality.

Hours of Work:  In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7.  There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (days, nights, 12 hour shifts).

Other:  All job offers will require compliance with our COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for proof of full vaccination (two doses) unless provided with a medical exemption or an accomodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
